چکیده

We describe a semi-automated approach for designing morphological operators for detecting geometric structures in images. The approach automatically combines simple morphological primitives from a pool to generate an enumerable family of complex morphological operators that span a Receiver Operating Curve (ROC). Domain knowledge can be encoded by biasing the operator pool with primitive operators considered suitable by the designer; the system subsequently automatically selects and combines operators based on the joint statistics of the dataset. The major advantages of this method are that the designer can focus on constructing and analyzing individual generic simple operators, yet is able to rapidly combine them to yield more powerful, problem-specific solutions, whose operating point can easily be changed. We illustrate the approach by defining a generic probabilistic scene model using Birth and Death processes and associated simple operators, and combining the simple operators. Examples of using the system to perform video text detection are presented. Keywords— Morphology, automated design, preprocessing, probability, detection, bit-plane algorithms1.

Automatic Detection and Localization of Surface Cracks in Continuously Cast Hot Steel Slabs Using Digital Image Analysis Techniques

Quality inspection is an indispensable part of modern industrial manufacturing. Steel as a major industry requires constant surveillance and supervision through its various stages of production. Continuous casting is a critical step in the steel manufacturing process in which molten steel is solidified into a semi-finished product called slab. Once the slab is released from the casting unit, th...

Reducing Light Change Effects in Automatic Road Detection

Automatic road extraction from aerial images can be very helpful in traffic control and vehicle guidance systems. Most of the road detection approaches are based on image segmentation algorithms. Color-based segmentation is very sensitive to light changes and consequently the change of weather condition affects the recognition rate of road detection systems. In order to reduce the light change ...

Semi-Automatic Data Annotation, POS Tagging and Mildly Context-Sensitive Disambiguation: the eXtended Revised AraMorph (XRAM)

An extended, revised form of Tim Buckwalter’s Arabic lexical and morphological resource AraMorph, eXtended Revised AraMorph (henceforth XRAM), is presented which addresses a number of weaknesses and inconsistencies of the original model by allowing a wider coverage of real-world Classical and contemporary (both formal and informal) Arabic texts. Building upon previous research, XRAM enhancement...

Building a Tree-Bank of Modern Hebrew Text

This paper describes the process of building the first tree-bank for Modern Hebrew texts. A major concern in this process is the need for reducing the cost of manual annotation by the use of automatic means. To this end, the joint utility of an automatic morphological analyzer, a probabilistic parser and a small manually annotated tree-bank was explored. An initial tree-bank that consists of 50...
